How to find a person's IP address. Surely you have already heard that through the IP address it is possible to find out who is on the other side of the screen and, therefore, identify a person on the network. And it is (almost) true.
However, before creating false hope and unnecessary scaremongering, it seems like a must to make a clarification: although it is possible to find the IP address that identifies a specific user on the network, the latter does not allow the precise identity of that person to be traced. At least, not for a "common" user, only the provider offering the Internet connection and the judicial authorities can trace an IP address, used at a specific time, to a natural person (the subscription holder or the telephone line reference).
However, it can be helpful to find information about your accounts, such as your geographic origin and your ISP.
How to find a person's IP address step by step
As anticipated at the beginning, before explaining how to find the IP address of a person, I want to explain in detail what we are talking about, in case you did not know of course.
The IP is a unique address consisting of a group of four numbers between 0 and 255 and separated by a period (eg 217.201.196.16 ), which is used to identify computers and other devices capable of connecting to a network in networks local and Internet.
Simply put, it is a kind of license plate number and is essential for setting up networks and firewalls, as well as identifying a particular user.
IP addresses can be dynamic (that is, they change with every connection) or type static (that is, fixed, that never changes).
A distinction must also be made between public type IP addresses (which identifies devices on the Internet) and writes local IP addresses (which are instead assigned by modems/routers to identify the various devices within the home network or the office).

If you want to find someone else's IP address, perhaps a nuisance sending you unsolicited emails or a user leaving questionable comments on your blog, you can resort to using the functions attached to the program/web service for mail that you use or, in the second case, for those of the hosting platform you use for your site.
With regard to e-mails, it is possible to obtain the sender's IP address by consulting the received message's header. In case you don't know, the header is a report in which there are all the technical details of the emails that arrived in your inbox.
Therefore, to find a person's address in an email, you need to open the message and follow the instructions below depending on the program/web service you generally use to manage electronic correspondence.
- Outlook Express - Select property from the file/files menu, go to details in the window that opens, and click the Original Message button.
- Apple Mail - Select the reference email, select the item view from the menu bar, move the cursor up message, and click the item Format source.
- Mozilla Thunderbird, - Select Message Source from the view menu.

However, keep in mind that, effective as it may be, the system in question is not always functional. For senders using Webmail, the IP is replaced by that of the mail service servers and therefore no longer corresponds to the real one.

Online tools: how to find a person's IP address
Besides being able to find the IP address of others, you can obviously find your own, an operation that can be useful for configuring the use of certain services on your modem/router, the firewall, and much more.
To track your IP address, you can use the online service What is my IP address? which allows you to have extremely detailed information about it.
Connect to the home page of the service and wait a few moments for the service to load. If you are performing on a mobile device, you can also resort to using some special applications. On Android, you can download from the Play Store IP tools: network utilities. It is a free application (in its basic version, the Pro version can be unlocked through in-app purchases and includes additional features) that allows you to find out your public (as well as local) IP address and provides various information about the ISP, DNS server and other parameters of the connection in use.
The application also integrates a series of useful tools to ping the connection (that is, to verify latency times), to know detailed information about an IP address through the Whois system, to view statistics on the data sent and received, and much more.
To use the application after downloading and installing it on your device, launch it, and… that's it! Your IP address information will be automatically displayed directly on the home screen. The public P is what you find written in larger characters at the top. Instead, the other tools I was talking about can be accessed from the menu that appears by pressing the button with three horizontal lines on the left, always at the top.
If you are using an iOS device, iPhone or iPad, that is, you can take advantage of the Network Analyzer Lite app. It is a free resource (but there is possibly a paid variant available) that offers more functions) and can be downloaded from the App Store that shows the public IP address (both of the ADSL / fiber connection and of the 3G / LTE connection) on a single screen. ) of the network you are connected to, but also your local address. The application also integrates tools to test the connection used and to know the data related to the other devices connected to the network.
To use the application after downloading and installing it on your device, launch it and you will immediately find the information about your connection. In the external IP entry, you will find the public IP address of the network you are connected to. If it is not shown automatically, stop at the N / A Reload wording and the information appears instantly.
