As of Android 12, mobiles will be updated earlier. How will they get it? |
One of the biggest drawbacks of the Android operating system is how slow updates are implemented, something that Google has been working against for many years as well as each of the manufacturers. However, they have not achieved much progress so far, when it has been known that Android 12 will change the updates and improve its times significantly.
The plan developed by the big G begins to reach the end of the shift after a long journey that seems to be beginning to bear fruit, as confirmed by Dave Burke, who is vice president of Android development. To make this possible, many internal changes have been completed that the users cannot see, but that means an important evolution in what is a very mature system and with many modifications by each manufacturer.
A system based on individual modules
The first big change that was introduced to improve Android updates began with the division of areas and modules that allow mobile phones to be updated in parts. Thanks to this in Android 10 and later versions we can see how a series of system services are updated independently of the manufacturers. However, the biggest problem is in the Linux kernel, which is different for each brand and model. Which makes quick system updates difficult.
Android 12 will have a common kernel for all mobiles
As Burke has confirmed in the interview for Arstechnica, Google will integrate with Android 12 a generic kernel unlinked from the system, compatible with all devices and that can be updated as easily as smartphone applications do now. In Android 11 we already see an initial version of this idea, but it still has a wide path of improvement, which will allow manufacturers to have at their disposal from the beginning a base on which to work.
This will force that the commitment with the updates is even greater on the part of the manufacturers and therefore the user's benefit. All those who use Google services will have to improve their update systems with this change, which only leaves Huawei out.
MIUI, One UI, or Color OS will be updated much earlier
Despite the information given by the vice president of development, it is not known what will be the times that the actions may reach. What is certain is that Xiaomi, Samsung, OPPO or Realme phones, among others, will be able to offer versions with fewer bugs, fewer problems, and in a much shorter time. We hope to hear more about the changes in Android 12 soon to get our hopes up with iOS-style quick updates.
